New Storyboard

Here is a few pictures of our drafted storyboard. We used blue tack and pencil to sketch up our initial shots, we did this so we are able to go back and edit them. We also typed up the duration, shot type, dialogue and what is happening and stuck them below, as well as marking each transition between shots.
Once we have a finalised idea, we will permanently mark out our drawings and add colour.

Car Crash Sound

As a group we have concluded the car crash sound will be our climactic moment.
Because of this decision, we have thought of multiple conventions we can use to intensify and emphasise the severity of the crash. Sound is essential in our piece to leave the audience with fear and suspense for the unravelling of the story ahead.

After watching car crash scenes on Youtube we saw how common sounds are a hissing of smoke, dripping of oil and water, crunching of bonnet and screams or cries.

We want to introduce these sounds in time to climatic or relevant moments in our house music backing track, we will do this on iMovie. In editing we wish to adjust our pitch, tempo and tone to make the scene all the more piercing and frightening . We are contacting the producers of all clips used in order to not infringe copyright laws.

Narrative Planning and Ideas

Today we began to look at the different themes and narratives we would consider for our trailer. After brainstorming we chose the following three to evaluate, drink driving, homosexuality and body image as they all a controversial topics in the media and relatable.

Drink Driving

  1. Original
  2. Current
  3. Applicable
  4. We have a car accessible

Con

  1. Difficult to film
  2. Potentially Dangerous
  3. Hard to get good quality footage in a moving car

Homosexuality

  1. Pro
  2. Easy to film
  3. Current social issue

Con

  1. Unoriginal
  2. Boring
  3. Gives little leeway in narrative
  4. Hard to find people willing to perform this role

Body Image

Pro
  1. Easy to represent
  2. Current issue
  3. Potentially emotional

Con

  1. Unoriginal
  2. Offensive to person performing
  3. Gives little leeway in narrative
  4. Limited cast needed

We looked at the pros and cons revolving around the previous 3 topics and concluded with Drink Driving.

Our poster

We used a scene from our film as a capture shot for ou poster as it was passionate, high intensity and enigmatic. We also used a black and white edit to anchor our social realism genre and used the same font that is shown in the trailer. Faded into the background of the poster is a 'Police Road Closed' sign, we did this to show our narrative clearly and excite the audience that the film takes a turn for the worst.
We used the stereotypical codes and conventions of social realism film posters, including a large title, main character names, film ratings by a range of British companies, the age rating (which is crucial) and our film production logo.

Narrative Theory

I have created a Prezi to display my research and understanding of Narrative Theory.
I learnt the difference between story and narrative and that all media texts have a narrative.
Story = a sequence of events, known correctly as the plot
Narrative = the way those events are put together to be presented to an audience.
