Narrative Theory

I have created a Prezi to display my research and understanding of Narrative Theory.
I learnt the difference between story and narrative and that all media texts have a narrative.
Story = a sequence of events, known correctly as the plot
Narrative = the way those events are put together to be presented to an audience.

Why Genre Has Change

I have been exploring why genre gas changed since the early 1960's.I decided technology, the outside world and 'what came before' are the three main factors, our group created posters to present our knowledge of the development of genre.

Party Scene Inspiration

At the beginning of our trailer, we are featuring a party scene to demonstrate the action of substance abuse as well as introduce the main protagonists. We looked at Movern Callar as inspiration for the opening, as it uses variation of colours and follows one character around (similar to how we would film the brother).

However, we would use the sound and music differently, using a muffed, deep bass track to put the audience inside the brother's head (hearing the sound he hears).

Our Production Company

We felt it essential to develop a name and logo to distinguish ourself from other companies and have a clear brand. This also makes us more professional and allows us to create credits for out film trailer.

How did we come up with the name 'Chrome Pictures'?

We felt the meaning of the name into account was essential and the fact it needs to correlate with the genre we chose. At the moment we are fond to explore theatrical Social Realism trailer for our final cut.

We began to look at interesting adjectives to use in order to make our production company stand out, however we also wanted our company to be dominant and signify power. This is where we came up with using 'Chrome Pictures'.

When/where will our logo feature?

We will use our logo on most of our promotional material, including the trailer itself, poster and written coursework.

We used a free logo creator to explore all the possible ways of writing Chrome Pictures and possible symbols we could tie in. We felt the following bottom one is slick and appropriate and is our winner!

Age rating

We felt it essential to identify which age bracket our film should be in due to the mature content. We didn't want to rate it to young and be criticised  for being irresponsible, our rate it too old and potentially lose customers

Our Trailer Contains:
-Alcohol and Drug abuse
- Mild Violence
 -Mild Graphic Images

Therefore we have decided to rate our film trailer at an age 15 certificate.

In an age 15 the British Board of Film Classification stated you may see the following:

  1.   strong violence
  2.  frequent strong language (e.g. 'f***').
  3.   portrayals of sexual activity
  4.   strong verbal references to sex
  5.   sexual nudity
  6.   brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence
  7.   discriminatory language or behaviour
  8.   drug taking

Website Research

I felt it essential to look at other websites of social realm films in order to see codes and conventions that they obtain and reflect this is my own.I looked at Trainspotting and found the following characteristics.

What I took from this is the following

  1. -A bold Title
  2. -A specific colour theme
  3. -A photo of cast
  4. -Clips of scenes
  5. -Introduction of crew

Fish Tank was a film that throughout our trailer journey has inspired me with it's current theme and clear identity. I identified the following traits.

  1. Release Date
  2. Identifying colour
  3. Main Character
  4. Synopsis
  5. Company Logo

Tile and Credits

We looked at Fish Tank and This is England in order to gain inspiration for our credits and title.

We wanted to use big bold text, however, we thought white text against a black background would be too plain so we used a white powder in order to reflect cocaine and a Gothic century text as it is aesthetically pleasing and professional.

Making our own sound

Re-filming

Unfortunately we have had to change the actors we originally casted due to a lack of commitment on their part to attend rehearsals and filming. Therefore we have re-cast and are very optimistic and confident in our new choices. After evaluating the characteristics we wished for our female protagonists to obtain we realised that Milly Clark in our group fitted all of these and also obviously  had a strong idea of the look we wanted for our trailer and a high level of commitment. Therefore we are now using her and are hopefully going to progress through filming quicker.
